My Story

Welcome to my website. You will find it useful when searching for real estate to rent or purchase in the Shenandoah Valley! I grew up in southwestern PA near Pittsburgh, served on active duty as a U.S. Air Force Weather Officer during 1968-72, and retired from the USAF Reserves in 1995 as a Lieutenant Colonel.  As a civilian, I worked for the National Weather Service from 1972-2007, beginning as a research meteorologist, and retiring from the Senior Executive Service as Director of the Climate Prediction Center.  It was exciting and rewarding to supervise men and women who developed techniques for observing and predicting complex conditions such as drought and hurricane seasons, and improving prediction skill on time scales from next week to months and seasons in advance.

My wife Peggy and I began our interest in real estate with purchases of a condominium in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL in 2005 and a townhouse in Harrisonburg in 2007 – both of which we continue to rent out.

Our daughter Megan and son Peter graduated from James Madison University and Peter has been affiliated with the Funkhouser Real Estate Group (FREG) for over 10 years.  He is currently the Director of Business Development & Client Services.  It was natural to consider FREG when the opportunity arose to manage a dozen or so rental properties.  I have the support, outstanding reputation, and experience of the FREG behind me.  I promise my clients thorough advertising, quick response, and timely communication via e-mail, phone, and/or face-to-face meetings.
